Ontario’s push to become special-effects power centre

Believe it or not I still get a lot of push back when I talk about New Brunswick needing to focus on a few key industries and build the value proposition for business investment in those sectors by targeted spending on education, R&D, tax, infrastructure and other kinds of activities that will make us attractive for those industries.

There are those who throw up the usual talk about not “picking winners” etc. etc. etc. no need to rehash.

But it is good to show examples once in a while.

Here’s a profile of Ontario’s focus on the multimedia industry.   Notice the commentary about tax incentives, the focus on educating specific talent for this sector -and, my favourite – that Ontario has both a number of the large, global players and a pile of 50-150 person startups.

That’s the recipe for a healthy industry.
