Calibrating and recalibrating expectations

Let me be clear up front.  I was pleasantly surprised by the 2.9 percent population growth rate for NB from 2006 to 2011.   When we get the population by age data, it will likely show population stagnation or decline among the younger demographic but nevertheless 2.9 is the best we have seen in a while.

I suspect the newspapers tomorrow will be replete with positivism about the pop growth rate even though we are continuing a streak of decades where we have underperformed the national growth rate for population.

If you set the bar low enough, any growth at all is exciting.
