Before some of you start decrying a place like New Brunswick’s ability to attract such a facility, someone who should know said NB was working on landing Ubisoft back in 1996.
800 high paying animators in Toronto. I guess that is good news for the animators here that are looking for work…..
Ubisoft huh? I’m not even going to check, but methinks that’s an Industry Canada [TPC] grant that got them to Ontario. Probably not a hard sell either back then since Harris refused to play favorites, not to mention, he laid the groundwork for a better business environment. Much of the reason why Toronto and Ottawa went through such a great economic expansion in the high tech sector.
But we got call centres, so its an even trade off. 😉

Disregrd all that was said above, bogus my dear watson.
1996 was a lifetime ago, this venture talks about the convergence of ‘film and video gaming’. Even if there were some animators still left in NB, where is the film industry? The city of Toronto built its own studio, in NB….uh, cue crickets. On the financial side, a quarter of a BILLION over ten years isn’t insignificant, although we don’t know what form that cash is. Compare that to the two million that FatKat got for 100 employees and you can see just what a bargain that was.
And the share price, compared to a year ago?
” he laid the groundwork for a better business environment. Much of the reason why Toronto and Ottawa went through such a great economic expansion in the high tech sector.”
I think you have your dates wrong. Ever hear of the tech bubble? Was Harris responsible for the resurgence of Montreal’s tech sector also?
