Ontario to collect $347-million payout
Ontario will for the first time collect from a federal program designed to shift wealth to Canada’s poorest regions next year, an unpleasant reminder of the grim economic prospects facing the country’s most populous province. Premier Dalton McGuinty’s government will receive $347-million in the fiscal year starting in March, federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced at a meeting Monday with his provincial and territorial counterparts.

Wow.

Listened to the CBC interviews with the Ont Fin Min who was begging for Fed bailout money to prop up failing car mfg because they got it wrong. Then the Fed Min came onand outlined the lists of money available for hybrid tech and other high fuel mileage cars.

An interesting contrast. It hurts to lose a gravey train but it is so important to let go and move on.

This buries the great news that Newfoundland & Labrador no longer get equalization payments. Who would have thought that possible 10, or even 5 years ago?
