The TJ is running an editorial today optimistically suggesting that the Miramichi will rise again. I hope they are right. New Brunswick needs to have strong economic growth poles in the south, central and northern NB.
But I think right now the region is benefitting from the migrant workers to Alberta which is a temporary solution at best. I think there will be a tendancy to use any new funds to build cottage clusters and try and support other tourism activity. You can’t replace forestry jobs with tourism jobs (cue the mantra).
My roots go deep in the ‘Chi. I didn’t live there (with the exception of a few months) but both my parents, and their parents going back several generations did.
