Canada West Foundation weighs in on Equalization

This is interesting. The Canada West Foundation agrees with a recent federal report that recommends 50 per cent of natural resource revenues be included in the calculations that determine which provinces must contribute to the pot to help out the others.

Saskatchewan and Newfoundland are vehemently against the idea, saying it would cost them hundreds of millions in revenue each year.

The report says including 50 per cent of resource revenues in the equalization formula would be “an interesting compromise between the two poles of the issue.”

The Canada West Foundation is is western Canada-centric so this is an interesting position to take. It does represent a middle ground.
