Anybody want to tell me about CGI

CGI is expanding again in Halifax. They have expanded there recently and also in PEI.

They are apparently looking to double in size.

Anybody want to tell me why there are no stories of CGI expanding in New Brunswick?

I must be getting old but I seem to remember a time with CGI was the darling of the NB IT industry. Setting up an eGov lab in Freddy. Hiring like mad. Stealing some of the best and brightest people out of government in Freddy Beach.

Now they seem to be expanding everywhere but here.

Am I wrong?

  1. MonctonLandlord says:

“CGI Group Inc. is expanding its Halifax operations with the addition of 23 SAP business software application specialists.” – from news release David quotes.

Well, i am not surprised of the CGI expansions in PEI and Hfx. However, I am totally surprised that the Halifax expansion is for SAP specialists. Some may remember, the last major announcement of Frank McKenna 1996, an SAP centre right here in Moncton, in the old CN building. When SAP pulled the paracord. Tullamore consulting realising all trained and available infrastructure, bought the operations, hired the staff and operated for a couple of years, then again mass-layoffs. I remember, the hiring of at least 20-25 engineers, many of them recent grads, notably: Christian Couturier (now NRC), Nancy Gautreau (now Aliant), Sébastien Viel (now Medavie), André Léger (now North American Filters) and many other engineers still in NB. Why couldn’t NB lure CGI, with such talent here? We need leadership, today.
