R&D lags

Remember all that LordSpeak about being third in Canada for R&D spending, turning NB into an innovation province, eNB and all that jazz?

More proof it was just hot air dissipating in the night.

Saint John is the only city in the study because they only looked at CMAs. Another good reason that Moncton is becoming a CMA. So Saint John doesn’t bear the brunt of the negative CMA analysis.

But I digress.

Is it surprising that only Thunder Bay and Abbostford scored lower than Saint John for R&D?

There are some research intensive cities that would be hard to beat but we should be able to compete with Sherbrooke, Saguenay and Saskatoon. I suspect that Fredericton might rank somewhat higher on the list but it is way to small to be a CMA anytime soon.

At the end of the day, New Brunswick has got to step up and say we want to be ‘great’ at something. At this point, I don’t even care what ‘something’.
