Halifax wins again

I have often mused that New Brunswick could have elevated its call centre sector into a financial services back office cluster. There have been something like 80,000 new financial services jobs created in the GTA in the past 10 years. Hedge funds and other new financial products require considerable analyst and back office horse power.

It’s clear now that Nova Scotia was getting the message. This is the sixth financial services firm to put a back office or service centre in Halifax in the past two years. By my count something like 900 or more new, high paying jobs.

In New Brunswick? Well, the virtual call centre announced another facility in Perth Andover at $8.50/hour…..

Say what you will about NSBI. They are getting it done.

They ARE getting it done and they are very good at it too. Didnt we used to have a similar department in NB for this kind of thing? I think it was part of the McKenna government.
BNB should look towards reinstating this department which acts independently from the bureaucratic quagmire.
We might get something done then.

Yup, spin-off BNB into a crown corp like NSBI.

I can assure you, the Board of Directors at NSBI is top notch, what a way to lure a company will lobbying the government for incentives, a real broker.
