FDI – Redux

A couple of people have correctly stated there has been some foreign direct investment into New Brunswick in the last six years. My previous post was a bit of an exaggeration. India’s Birla Group bought the mill in Nackawic (with $60 million in NB gov. loans/guarantees). Spain’s Reposol has a limited stake in Irving’s LNG plant (I am not sure how much investment). Molson is now traded on the NYSE but I think it is still a Canada-based firm – not sure. Bennet Environmental is definitely Canadian.

The point is that there has been $26 billion in FDI so far this year. While it is very difficult to determine how much of this came into NB, for decades it has been minimal.
